Aids Awareness Group (AAG) is an organization, which is trying to promote sexual health. And who confront the problems posed by Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

The problems posed by STDs and AIDS are not so different from other health and development problems. We reach those most at risk, with programs that empower people to gain better control over their lifestyles. We help people to share responsibility for their own and their partner's sexual health and happiness. We constitute the skills that are necessary to help people prevent the spread of the Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV), which causes AIDS. This is because we:

  • Counsel clients about Sexual Matters
  • Talk about Sexually Transmitted Diseases
  • Provide family life education for young people and their parents
  • Promote condoms and spermicides and instruct people how to use them.

The expansion and strengthening of these programs help to prevent HIV transmission, even if AIDS is not mentioned. We modify our existing work to account of AIDS and other STDs. We do this by

  • Ensuring that infection control procedures are adequate to protect people from HIV and other infections.
  • Adapting contraceptive information to take account of risk of infection.
  • Generating concern about STDs and HIV and enabling people to look at their options and take effective actions to protect themselves
  • Helping people with specific worries concerning STDs and AIDS as they come up.

Our Aids Awareness Group also provides guidance about the care of people with HIV infection in our communities. We play an important role in reassuring people that it is safe for people with HIV infection or AIDS to live with their families in the community and continue with their lives. It is vital to help people understand that isolation of people with HIV infection or AIDS, can only do harm to the community, to the family and the individual. Isolation will do nothing to prevent the spread of AIDS. Only changes in behaviour can do that.
